Rock Flow Dynamics (RFD) develops software for the petroleum industry. It offers a wide range of advanced innovative tools for reservoir engineering implemented in tNavigator – the dynamic reservoir simulator developed by the company. RFD is expanding quickly to keep up with a fast growing Oil & Gas service industry. Our multidisciplinary team has over 40 highly qualified professionals engaged in the development and support of the next generation of reservoir simulation software. Apart from software, RFD also provides a wide range of consulting services. Many members of the team are actively engaged in various research projects in the areas of numerical methods, high performance computing and others.
The industry-leading reservoir simulator tNavigator is the first and only product on the market which dynamically combines a fully interactive 3D graphical user interface and a record breaking parallel supercomputing engine. The core algorithms are based on the latest scientific developments in the field and provide the most efficient use of modern computing platforms. As a result, tNavigator provides superior performance and user efficiency for reservoir engineers at the corporate reservoir simulation centers and in the fields.
RFD has a strategic investment and marketing agreement with Intel Capital. The company has two offices in Moscow and Houston.
Target Regions
In addition to the company offices in Moscow and Houston, RFD has strategic partners in all principal regions of the world. RFD provides reservoir engineering solutions on the globe. RFD aims to make tNavigator the next world market leader in the reservoir simulation area.
Areas of Activity
RFD is specialized in the software solutions for the petroleum industry. The company develops software for reservoir simulations.
Key Projects
tNavigator is currently used by petroleum and service companies in Russia, Kazakhstan, USA, UK, UAE and China, and keeps expanding. We have a number of implementations where reservoir simulator is applied not only for conceptual model building, but also for everyday field challenges.
tNavigator developers proposed a new approach to reservoir simulations. The company has developed the user interface with embedded standardized-scenario solutions of typical production problems: waterflood optimization, sidetracking, fracturing and BHT, tracers, polymer injections, etc.. tNavigator is able to control the model at runtime. So, reservoir engineers can change anything in the scheme design and instantly see the effect of the changes on the production indicators.
An application example is TNK-BP, where tNavigator is applied to optimize waterflooding and simulate production and workover actions in the fields. The project results in improved workover efficiency from 40 to 67%.
Service Offering
New technologies developed by the research and product development teams of Rock Flow Dynamics are integrated into the company’s flagship product – tNavigator. This software is designed for running dynamic reservoir simulations on engineers’ laptops, servers, and HPC clusters. tNavigator is written in C++ and designed from the ground up to run parallel acceleration algorithms on multicore and manycore shared and distributed memory computing systems. The software employs Qt graphical libraries, which makes the system true multiplatform. By taking advantage of the latest computing technologies like NUMA, Hyperthreading, MPI/SMP hybrids, the performance of tNavigator by far exceeds the performance of any industry standard dynamic simulation tools. Only by using tNavigator can users be sure to unlock the full potential of modern computing hardware.
Unlike other competing software products, tNavigator license pricing doesn’t depend on the number of cores employed in the shared memory computing systems.
One of the other distinctive features, which sets tNavigator apart from any existing products, is the interactive user control of the simulation run. Users can not only monitor every step of the reservoir simulation at runtime, but also, they can directly interrupt and change the simulation’s configurations with just a mouse click.
